Rega RP1 Turntable Review

Here’s the deal:

If you’re researching a Rega RP1 Turntable, you’re probably getting serious about the world of record players and LPs. The good news is that you’re leaning towards one of the best turntables under $500 that the market currently has on offer.

Read our review to find out why…

Rega isn’t a newcomer to the turntable scene; in fact they’ve been producing all kinds of electronic music devices and equipment for decades in the UK and across the globe. The Rega RP1 has been around for quite some time too, and it’s a turntable renowned for its crystal clear sound quality.

Right off the bat we were blown away by how easy it was to set up the RP1. You literally only need to take it out of the box, slide on the weight, plug it in, and then start enjoying amazing sound quality.

Thee phenolic resin platter has a lot to do with the sound quality that the RP1 delivers, and you can definitely sense a crisper and cleaner quality when compared to older Rega turntables. It’s really hard to argue with the Rega RP1’s functionality, usability, and simplicity.

One thing that we appreciated was how compact and lightweight the device was, which made it perfect for traveling. Casual listeners and audiophiles alike love this thing and we’re betting you will too.

A Word of Warning

Obviously we need to dish out the dirt if and when we find it, and as with all other turntables, the Rega RP1 does have a few drawbacks, but they shouldn’t discourage you from investing though.

The biggest issue we had with this unit was its appearance, which is just much more plastic than we’d like to see. We get that Rega tried to streamline the design, but they might have pushed the boundaries a little too far here.

As a side note, you should keep in mind that Rega is a unique brand, and as such, the RP1 has a unique plinth, tonearm, cover, cover hinges, table, and mat. Make sure that you’re cool with the style BEFORE you make that purchase because if you get picky once your turntable arrives, you’ll be the one covering shipping charges back to the customer service center.
